DIA 15 Type

DIA 15 is a self-initiated project, designing a typeface for a local football team, the Corinthian Casuals, based in Tolworth. My reason is that over the last decade, we have seen an increase in high-level football clubs' having fonts designed for them. The aim is to give the same options to those clubs that don't have the benefits of a large bank account. It would also highlight the massive gap between top-flight football and grassroots football. The outcome was to design a specimen poster with an artical that talk about Sócrates and his action while at Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.

The design of the type is insipred by the late Brazilian football/Soccer player Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira Or just Sócrates who played as a midfielder. He also had a medical degree which earned him the nick name Doctor Sócrates. During his time at Corinthians, Sócrates co-founded the Corinthians Democracy movement, in opposition to the then-ruling military government. Sócrates and his teammates protested against the regime's treatment of footballers, and showed support to the wider movement for democratisation, by wearing shirts with "Democracia" written on them during games. One of the most notable decisions they made was, in 1982, having "Vote on 15th" printed on the back of their shirts to motivate fans to vote in the first Brazilian multiparty election since the 1964 military coup.
